Description

The doodle session actually started with this one, so I don't know why I posted it in a different order :P

Any-hoo I was attempting to depict movement but it ended up just being a armor clad dude just standing there.

It looks like he is getting ready to receive a charge.

That sword looks a bit more ground combat lengthed.

Just continuing the discussion from the last one. The wings here remind me of the spikes, etc... of the previous one. I know wings, horns, and even the spikes did in fact find their way into real combat armor but I have to believe their purpose was more for intimidation or self glorification since again anything that sticks out, even the edges of joint armor that flanges out to far, is going to increase the risk of catching weapons and even possibly guide them towards the wearers vulnerable spots and so one would expect that, for the most part, armorers would tend towards making sure such protuberances and flarings had a benefit equal or greater than the risk they posed. In the case of the joint armor: allowing the warrior to move.

So I guess its a question of whether the warrior is a showman confident in his (or others) abilities to protect himself as to allow some intimidating/charismatic props to be added to his armor or someone who is more concerned with staying alive in a business like fashion. I suppose the question of whether the character acquired the armor by commission, off the rack, or off a dead man is a factor as well.

Strategically placed spikes on ones shield might be the exception. Someone adept at using ones shield as a makeshift weapon might think it worth while to risk the weapon catching tendencies of a spike in the middle or one of the edges. Of course its fantasy and having a character who took the time to learn to make great use of specially "En-weaponed" armor would be very fun to read as long as it wasn't overused. I'm just talking in general in real history. Fantasy allows for inventiveness and experimentation not seen or perhaps just not properly recorded in our world. Or failing that just rewrite your world so it makes sense (but then you got to stick to those rules or risk fan-rage!)

Armor seems to inspire a lot of blah blah in me.
