The thing I love about this relationship, is there is so much to it.
Sesshomaru loves Rin, he loves her and that is all there is to say on the subject. When she found him in the woods she brought him things to make him feel better. He didn't touch those things, she was a filthy human after all, but it obviously did touch some part of his demon heart. And when she was killed by the pack of dogs he was touched enough by her kindness to bring her back to life. Then he does everything in his power to protect her. That makes me happy on so many levels.
And for whatever reason just the idea of Rin growing up to be a beautiful woman and falling in love with the demon who rescued her so many times, the demon who's cold heart she softened. It makes me giddy. And there's so many ways you can interpret his love, even if you don't ship SessRin. It's the love of a guardian or a parent, or even an older brother (though his track record as an older brother pretty much sucks). Or as Jaken kind of sees her, Rin is Sesshomaru's pet.
At this point in time, she's his puppy.

It actually gives me the Creeps when people call Sesshoumaru and Rin father/daughter for many reasons. First of all Rin is around 7 years old and Sesshoumaru is the 'equivalent' to a 19 year old male. Many fans of the father daughter theme say to apply them to the modern world then you will see how creepy the ship is. Alright lets do that. Sesshoumaru is her 19 year old 'father' and she's his 7 year old daughter. So let's see he had her when he was 12 years old kid. WOW, THAT'S NOT CREEPY AT ALL. Sesshoumaru NEVER came off as fatherly to Rin (to me anyways). There were so many good example's of great dad's in the series : playing with their kids (miroku and his kids), teaching them how to hunt/cook food (Kanta's dad), teaching them skills they could use in an Career (Sango's dad training his kids to be Demon hunters), giving them fatherly advise (Sango's dad again). Sesshoumaru was Rin's protector (I wrote an whole essay on the topic an my page). Jaken played games with her, and Sesshoumaru told her if she was hungry to fed for herself. I re-watched the series over and over again, to me it was hinted a lot that Sesshoumaru and older Rin was end game. I was so tired of being called a pervert because I feel that them hooking up she's an adult was manifest destiny and I couldn't see the 'fatherliness' to it. Some fans see it as brother/sister because of what Miroku said Sesshoumaru in episode 52. But your right his track record as an brother sucks. In many historical based stories ( like set 300-600 years ago) this kind of thing happened. An older male would take in an young girl as mentee or ward or and eventually fall in love for her when she got older. In today's modern 1st world society this kinda of situation would seem alittle weird. The Inuyasha story takes place in war-torn feudal Japan, of course its very endearing that he's protecting a lost orphan child in an dangerous civil war torn country. Rin had an dad that she loved very much, I don't think she see's Sesshoumaru as replacement for her deceased father. Their are some fans who view it like this at the end of the series : Sesshoumaru is the alpha of the pack, Inuyasha his beta, and Rin his omega 'puppy'. I think that's an interesting point of view. Have you listened to 'assette' on Youtube yet, it really dives more into the RinSess relationship.
